While the story remains inspired by Shirow Masamune’s manga, the look is more the kind of thing associated with Pixar movies or video game cutscenes. But fans have given the series a mixed reception so far, because of its decision to go with 3D CGI animation. Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 was announced at the end of 2018, with a promising duo of directors at the helm: Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama, who gave us Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Netflix’s Ghost in the Shell will arrive in April, the streaming giant has confirmed, and the first full trailer gives us a proper look at the series – and its dramatically different look to what fans of the franchise are used to.
